Week of March 29
Dear Families and Staff,
Spring is in the air. More mild weather seems to have finally arrived and we are looking forward to some warm sunny days ahead. Temperatures inside and outside the building will continue to fluctuate throughout spring. We recommend layers for students so they can adjust to changes in temperature throughout the day. Please remember to label all items of clothing so we can return misplaced items to students.

Music in our Schools
As you know, March is Music in Our Schools month. At Hurlbutt this month, we put a spotlight on music during our morning announcements. On Monday, we kicked off the week with a mystery musical moment. Students were invited to guess the instrument in a musical selection played over the announcements. This is a great way to introduce students to different sounds, instruments and types of music and is a fun game to play in the car on road trips. We are also playing different types of music and inviting students to think about how music makes them feel. We know from research that music can profoundly impact emotions by activating parts of the brain. It can also help us regulate our nervous system to promote feelings of calm or to energize us.
Planning for the 26-27 School Year
We are beginning the initial planning of classes for the 2026-2027 school year. The process is a collaborative effort that involves the classroom teacher, school psychologist, social worker and other essential staff who work closely with your child. We share the goal of creating well-balanced classes that meet the needs of all children. To that end, the following criteria will be used to create each class:
* a range of academic abilities, needs and modifications.
* a balance of boys and girls.
* a combination of children who we feel will work well together, and have a mix of learning styles, interests and personality traits.
* an attempt to place children with at least one familiar classmate from the current year.
If, as part of this planning process, you would like to share information of which we are not aware, please use the Optional Parent Input Form accessible through the following link: Optional Parent Input Form. Forms must be submitted by Wednesday, April 15. If you have an incoming kindergartener that form will be available as part of the registration process.
Climate Survey Open for Families
In March, Weston Public Schools will once again administer our School and Community Climate Surveys using Panorama Education. The surveys opened on Monday, March 9 and remain available through Friday, April 3. Please click Survey to answer questions regarding our school climate. If you have more than one child in Weston Public Schools, you will receive a survey for each child. Please note that the survey is completely anonymous. In addition to family feedback, students in grades 3 and above and staff members will also complete Panorama climate surveys. Hurlbutt students in grades 1 and 2 will complete a developmentally appropriate survey designed to get their feedback on school climate, safety and sense of belonging.
Sincerely,
Laura Kaddis
Principal
