Week of October 6

Posted Date: 10/18/2024

October 6, 2024

Dear Families,

I have noticed more students wearing sneakers to school!  Thank you for your help with this.  Our students are very active and weather permitting, have outdoor activities everyday.

Please note that Friday, October 11 is an early dismissal day for staff professional development.  School is closed on Monday, October 14 for Columbus/Indigenous People Day observance.  The dismissal manager cutoff time for changes on an early dismissal day is 10:00 a.m.  Please also note that on early dismissal days, walkers will be dismissed out of the library doors which are located in the main core playground. This is because our preschool students also dismiss at 12:35 p.m. which increases the number of cars and activity in the main traffic circle.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found collection is growing.  If your child is missing an item, please ask them to check the lost and found.  All of our students know where this is located and we are happy to help them find lost items. You are also welcome to check our lost and found by first checking in with security. Please avoid drop off and pick up times as our staff is fully engaged in these busy times of day.  We encourage you to label your child’s belongings. When items are labeled it is easy for us to return them to the students.

North House Playground Project

Our PTO funded North House playground project is nearing completion.  The equipment is almost ready for us to open. We anticipate the renovation to continue through the second week of October.  Please avoid this area when you are on campus and do not use the North House playground area to walk between buildings before or after school.  It is my recommendation that for the next two weeks car riders are picked up from Hurlbutt and WIS rather than having WIS students walk to Hurlbutt after school to meet their siblings.

School Lunch

This past week our students had additional items available for purchase in the cafeteria.  In advance of those choices, please review those options with your child. This link: Lunch Menus  will take you to the culinary services section of the website and the school lunch menus. Please note there is a lunch menu and a separate a la carte, beverage and snack menu so be sure to check out both.  It is our recommendation that you review these items with your child and set some clear expectations about what you want them to purchase. If you are interested in placing any restrictions on your child’s account, please email foodservices@westonps.org

Climate Survey

The district wide family climate survey remains open until this Friday, October 11.  We encourage you to participate as this gives us valuable information.  For your convenience, here is the link again. Family Survey Link: Family Survey

Hispanic Heritage Month

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month beginning on September 15th through October 15th, the office of Congressman Jim Himes is holding an essay contest to honor Hispanic/Latinx icons and their legacy. The attached letter has information for any student interested in participating. Please contact Congressman Himes' office directly should you have any questions. Submissions must be received in their office by Friday, October 4th.

Math Workshop

We are pleased to invite you to our annual parent & guardian math workshops! Our goal is to help you understand the math your child is learning and allow you to better support their learning at home. This session will be interactive and hands-on, so come excited to learn some new ways to think about mathematics!

WIS: Tuesday, October 22nd, 9:00-10:30 a.m.

Hurlbutt: Wednesday, October 30th,  9:15-10:45 a.m.

Reservations are needed and space is limited, as we need to know how many sets of materials to prepare. If we exceed our capacity, another session will be offered.

Please respond via the Google Form no later than October 16th. Both workshops are about K-5 math in Weston with a focus on the K-2 or 3-5 level. If you have students in both grade bands you can sign up using both forms or pick one of your choosing.
