CAMPUS

Week of November 10

Posted Date: 11/11/2024

Dear Families,

Our family conferences are such an important part of our program.  We appreciate your flexibility in adjusting to all the schedule changes.  The dedicated time allotted for teachers and parents/guardians to have conversations about the social, emotional and academic progress of our students is so valuable. Our goal every year is to ensure that 100% of our families have a fall and spring conference, whether it is in person or virtual. If for any reason you were unable to schedule a conference last week and don’t have one scheduled, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.

Veterans Day

Tomorrow is Veterans Day and we invite all of our students and staff to wear red, white and blue to show their support and thanks to our veterans.  You can still send in the honeycomb designed to honor a veteran you know. So far, we have 91 veterans recognized on our display.  The letter and attached baggie about this project went home last Monday with your child. If you have misplaced it or need an additional one, please have your child stop by the main office for an extra one. We want to recognize as many veterans as possible in our communities and families.

Attendance/Tardy Information

Last week, I highlighted our efforts to improve students’ on time arrival to school.  During the month of September we had 158 tardies recorded.  In October that number climbed to 247 tardies. With only 5 days so far in November, we already have 67 documented tardies. We know sometimes appointments need to be scheduled during the school day. However if you find that you are finding it difficult to get everyone out the door, please reach out. We know that mornings can be hectic at home. Our school social worker, Jillian Desiderio is a wealth of information and can help support the development of routines that make busy mornings more manageable.  Creating systems now will pay dividends down the road as children move through their school years.

Parent Event

In the district October newsletter, Lisa Barbiero, our superintendent, highlighted an upcoming parent event on November 21, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Join us for an evening with Max Stossel, an award-winning artist and the founder of Social Awakening, an organization dedicated to helping young people navigate and thrive in today’s digital landscape. Max will share essential insights into the influence of social media on our children and how we can support their social and emotional well-being in the modern world. This event aligns with our district’s commitment to fostering a supportive school climate and enhancing the social-emotional wellness of our students, families, and staff. We believe that a well-rounded academic experience includes equipping our students with tools for emotional resilience, and this presentation will offer valuable perspectives for parents and guardians. A special thank you to all of the Weston School PTOs for sponsoring this important event and making this opportunity possible for our community. Find out more at www.socialawakening.org
