Week of December 1

Posted Date: 12/03/2024

Dear Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.  Please note the upcoming events this week and in the weeks ahead.  December is going to fly by with only three weeks of school until winter break.

Lunch Menu and Options

The December lunch menus are now posted on the district website. As a reminder, chicken noodle soup is now an a la carte option.  You can find the soup on the December a la carte menu.   December Lunch Menus

Picture Retake Day:

Picture Retake day is Friday, December 6. There is no need to sign-up, students should just come to school “picture ready” and let their teacher know that they’d like a retake. Students who want to have their picture taken will be called down by grade-level.

Reading Informational Session for Families

Save the date of Thursday, January 30 at 9:15 a.m. for this informative session with our Curriculum Instructional Leader, Andrea Noble. Mrs. Noble will share information about our reading program, how children learn to read as well as tips and strategies for promoting literacy at home.  A registration will be sent out in the next weekly update.

Social Media Presentation

On Thursday, November 21, Weston had the pleasure of welcoming Max Stossel, an award-winning storyteller, filmmaker, and founder of Social Awakening, to our district. Max's work focuses on the intersection of technology, human well-being and connectedness. His presentations are designed to spark meaningful conversations about how we can support students in navigating the challenges of the digital world.

During his visit, Max delivered two impactful presentations to our secondary students and hosted an evening event for members of our parent community. The parent presentation offered valuable insights into the challenges our students face with technology and provided strategies for fostering healthier relationships with it.

Whether or not you were able to attend the event, I encourage you to watch the recording that Max has provided to us, available free on his website for the next month. You can access the recording here:

Max Stossel Parent Presentation

Thank you for taking the time to engage with this presentation. It directly supports two of our district improvement goals:

  • Providing professional learning opportunities for staff and families about the impact of social media on connectedness and belonging.

  • Creating a distraction-free environment that encourages positive interactions within our school community.

The presentation is relevant to all of us regardless of the age of our children. It encourages us to reflect on our own use of social media and the impact it has on our well being and our community.

Sincerely,

Laura Kaddis

Principal
