Week of January 19

Posted Date: 01/21/2025

Dear Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. We encourage our students to take time this weekend to think about Monday’s holiday and the significance of the day.  They have been learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and the contributions he made to our world through age-appropriate learning activities. They explored his message of equality, kindness, and courage and how his peaceful leadership inspired change. We also encourage our students to think about how their acts of kindness can make a positive difference in their own class, school and community.

Middle School Short Wharf Theatre

Next weekend is the Weston Middle School Short Wharf's production of The Music Man, Jr.! This is a great way to introduce young children to theatre and for you to experience the amazing theatre program in our district and to support our middle school students. Tickets are available at https://whscompany.ludus.com/index.php.  The following is a brief description of the show.

Professor Harold Hill, a fast-talking traveling salesman, arrives in River City, Iowa selling musical instruments and uniforms, with a plan to swindle the townsfolk. He professes that there is 'trouble' in River City and uses his charm to convince them that they need to create a boy's band to keep the youth in line. Harold is really just a charismatic conman, scheming to leave town with the money he collects. However, as Harold interacts with the genuine people of River City, including falling for Marian Paroo, he begins to change, ultimately finding a sense of belonging and love. The Music Man Jr. features memorable songs, including, 'Seventy-Six Trombones,' 'Ya Got Trouble,' 'Till There Was You,' and' Goodnight, My Someone.'
