Week of May 11

Posted Date: 05/19/2025

Dear Families,

There is so much happening in our school and our community this month.  This coming week is the district art show!  We hope you can join us to celebrate all of the amazing artwork our students created under the guidance and support of our talented and dedicated art teacher, Sarah Webb.  See below for details about the show.

This past weekend, our school community had the chance to come together for a wonderful Holi celebration, thanks to our amazing PTO. Holi is a joyful festival from the Hindu tradition that welcomes spring and celebrates the triumph of good over evil. It’s known for its colorful powder, music, dancing, and the spirit of togetherness—and the PTO event captured all of that! We’re so grateful to the PTO for planning such a fun and meaningful experience. Events like this are a great way to celebrate the many cultures in our community and give families a chance to share and experience traditions together.

Early Dismissal

This Friday is an early dismissal day for teacher professional development.  Please have all Dismissal Manager updates completed by 10 a.m.  All grades dismiss at 12:35 p.m.

One School One Book

We continue to read A True Home as a school community.

  • Ask your child each day to recap the latest chapter. You may also want to re-read the day’s chapters with your child or whole family. PLEASE DON’T SKIP AHEAD. This is a great way to foster home school communication with your child.

  • You can visit our OSOB website with your child for trivia, author info, photos and for the reading calendar. The link can be found on the Hurlbutt homepage.

We have our virtual author visit with Kallie George on May 14. Students will meet the author of our One School One Book title, A True Home by Kallie George. Students can come dressed in ways to represent woodland/forest critters- the characters in the book. Suggestions: animal ears, animal whiskers drawn on, clothing with woodland animals, homemade forest animal tails.

The Used Book Sale at the One School, One Book Family Fun event in June is back! We invite you to send your child in with UP TO FIVE (no more) gently used books for donation to the sale. Books will be accepted between May12th-May21st. Collection boxes will be in the classroom and please only send books appropriate for grades K-2. Please note we will not accept any books with rips, spills or missing flaps. Most books will be $1 (some hardcovers will be $5). Cash and venmo will be accepted. This is a great opportunity to recycle wonderful books within our community, especially before summer! Any questions? Please contact Whitney Levin at Whitneyshaylevin@gmail.com

Art Jam

Please join us for Weston’s annual Art Jam on Thursday, May 15, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. This year, Hurlbutt’s Art Jam will showcase two unique "exhibits".

The first exhibit, Through the Seasons, takes you on a journey through fall, winter, and spring. Each piece of art reflects the essence of its respective season, capturing events and the beauty of nature’s transformation throughout the year. We invite you to reflect on all we’ve experienced and how much we’ve grown over the course of this school year.

The second exhibit, What a Wonderful World, is inspired by the timeless song by Louis Armstrong. Each class was challenged to create a visual representation of a line from the song. As you move through the exhibit, it will feel as though the lyrics are coming to life around you.

Every student will have one artwork displayed in each exhibit. We hope to see you there! Please take a moment to explore our virtual program here.

Spring Climate Surveys

By now you have received a district email about the spring climate surveys for the Weston Public Schools.  We encourage your participation and feedback as we begin to plan for the next school year. The survey window for all surveys is from May 4th to May 31st. For your convenience, here is the link to the district surveys.  Family Survey

If you have more than one child in the Weston Public Schools, please complete one survey for each child. The survey is anonymous. Students (grades 3 and up) and staff in each of our buildings will complete Panorama Education student and staff climate surveys during the month of May. Our students in grades 1 and 2 will continue to take the survey used in previous years. We hope you feel comfortable answering the questions honestly to help us review our programs and ensure our students feel physically, socially, and emotionally safe in our schools.

Kindergarten Registration

If you have an incoming kindergarten student for the 25-26 school year, please begin the registration process.  Follow this link to our district website to register. Registration

If you have a student in the ELC program who is age eligible for kindergarten, you will need to register using the link above. Children are eligible for kindergarten if they are 5 on or before September 1, 2025. Planning for our classes is in process and having accurate registration information will help us design the best experience for our students.

Communication protocol link to website

Please remember we have a HES Communication Protocol 2024-2025.pdf to help you navigate the common occurrences in the daily lives of students, families, and staff. For many of your concerns, this protocol will let you know how to proceed.

Sincerely,
