Dear Families,
Our students continue to settle into their routines and learn about their new classmates. We are getting close to filling the honeyhive for the first time this year. Our students take pride in bringing a honeycomb into the office to add to the school hive.
Back to School Night
Our First Grade Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m.
Second Grade Back to School Night will be held on Thursday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m. We hope you can join the teachers in their classrooms for this informative evening. This event is designed for adults only.
Lost and Found
We already have some items in our Lost and Found. We suggest you label all of your student belongings so that we can facilitate the return of misplaced items. The most commonly misplaced items at school are water bottles, sweatshirts and jackets. Once the weather turns colder we also see hats and mittens in our Lost and Found. You can check our Lost and Found during one of our Back to School Nights or by visiting us between 8:30am and 4:00pm. Please check in with security who will direct you to the area.
Lunch and Snack Reminder
Hurlbutt is an allergy alert school. Snacks eaten in the classroom should be peanut and tree nut free. Kindergarten families can label a.m and p.m. snacks to help students differentiate between snacks and lunch they bring from home.
Our culinary services offer a range of lunch options for our students to choose from. This link: Lunch Menus will take you to the culinary services section of the website and the school lunch menus. Please note there is a lunch menu and a separate a la carte and beverage menu so be sure to check out both. Prices are also noted on the menu. It is helpful to have ongoing conversations with your child about what you want them to purchase. (for example: regular milk or organic milk which have different prices) It is our recommendation that you review these items with your child and set some clear expectations about what you want them to purchase. If you are interested in placing any restrictions on your child’s account, please email foodservices@westonps.org. Additional items will be available starting October 1 as noted on the a la carte menu. It is also our recommendation that you review your My School Bucks account at least once a week so you can track purchases and balances.
Dismissal Manager
The deadline for dismissal changes is 1:00 p.m. on a regular school day. On an early dismissal day the deadline is 10:00 a.m. for changes. If for some reason, your child’s after school program is canceled, you will need to change their plans in Dismissal Manager. The program does not automatically change for them. The after school programs are run by outside agencies.
Fall Assessment Information
At the beginning of each year our teachers gather baseline information about student skills in reading and math using a variety of resources. The teachers will share all of this information with you at conferences in the fall as well as progress they are making towards grade level standards and expectations. The NWEA MAP math assessment is one of the district wide resources that is used in kindergarten through ninth grade. Kindergarten students start this in the winter while the other grades take the fall, winter and spring administration. No one assessment truly captures a student’s skill level or competencies. Our teachers are highly skilled at looking at all the performance information including daily classroom work to plan appropriate and challenging lessons for students.
A Message from the Hurlbutt PTO President
Our annual PTO membership drive is OPEN! A PTO Membership is your gateway to joining the Hurlbutt Hive community. By joining the PTO, you're not just signing up for membership – you're making a commitment to your child's academic life and the school's broader initiatives.
The Hurlbutt Elementary School PTO, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that depends on the generosity of others to make a difference in our school community. Your tax-deductible, annual membership fee contributes directly to funding special projects, classroom resources, and student programs. Additional donations by parents, guardians, friends, or family members are always welcomed and appreciated.
Volunteering is not required! We already have a PTO Board that will plan programs and events -- we just need your financial support to make them happen!
